Services

The Erik H. Erikson Library has an Online Catalog!

Northern California Consortium of Psychology Libraries

SFCP is a member of NCCPL, a library consortium with 16 Bay Area psychology libraries. If you would like to request borrowing privileges at any NCCPL library, please see Alyson Barrett-Ryan to request a free NCCPL library card. Please visit the NCCPL website for more information regarding NCCPL, including participating libraries’ access hours and policies.

Course Reserve Materials

SFCP Faculty can reserve books or journals by calling the library.

Photocopying

  • 15 cents per page when copies are made by visitors of the library
  • $3.00 plus .15 cents per page when copies are made by librarians
  • Scanning and emailing of articles is the same price as photocopying
  • If an article is mailed, postage fees apply

Interlibrary Loan

Our library utilizes several online resources, including the National Library of Medicine’s Docline, to provide you with comprehensive, efficient Interlibrary Loan service. This service is very costly to provide in terms of staff time, database fees, postage, and charges from lending libraries. To recover a small portion of these costs we charge $15.00 for each interlibrary loan received from University Libraries outside of the NCCPL Consortium.

Interlibrary Loan Requests – Journal Articles and Books

  • Obtained from non-consortium members: $15.00 base charge, plus additional fees and postage applied by the lending institution
  • Obtained from consortium members: $5.00 base charge plus postage if applicable

Bibliographic Searches

SFCP librarians are available for bibliographic searching. You may request a search on a general or specific topic, and librarians will use the library’s catalog, PEP web, PsycNET, and other resources to compile a bibliography. Not all materials in the bibliography will reflect items available from the Erik H. Erikson Library unless you request the search to be limited to SFCP Library materials. The cost for bibliographies created by SFCP librarians is $15.00.

Online Databases

PsycNET and PEP web are available in-house for library visitors. There is no charge for using these resources in the library, and librarians will be more than happy to assist you with your search! We are currently investigating the cost of providing remote access to PsycNET; stay tuned for updates!

Bookstore

We also have a popular book-ordering service! For more information, please visit our Online Bookstore.

Policies

Library Use and Membership

The Erik H. Erikson Library supports the research needs of San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis members, candidates, and community. The library is open to the public during library hours. Members, candidates and community members receive full library privileges. SFCP Community Membership can be acquired through an annual enrollment fee.

Lending Policy

Books from the main collection, circulating journals, and circulating audiovisual material are available for four-week loan periods. Audiovisual material may be recalled after two weeks if requested by another library patron. Reference books and non-circulating journals are available for use within the library. One four-week renewal is possible for all circulating material.

Overdue and Lost Books

If a library book or other circulating item is not returned by its due date, we will attempt to notify you by phone or email. If we do not hear from you within four weeks after we have contacted you, we will assume the book is lost. We will send you an invoice detailing the cost of the missing item, plus a ten percent charge that will help to offset replacement costs.

We look forward to seeing you in the Library!
