2011-2012 SFCP Mentoring Program

The Mentoring Program* of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP) matches twelve participants each year with a SFCP analyst mentor to help direct each participant in their interests related to psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. The program is open to mental health clinicians at all levels of training & experience who are current members of the SFCP Community Members.

THE PROGRAM: Participants will be matched with a mentor by mid-October 2011. The program is not intended to be evaluative, supervisory, didactic, or to lead to treatment. Rather it is intended to be informational. Frequency of meeting and duration are open for discussion. As a guideline, one might expect monthly meetings from October to May.

Since the program is open to participants at a range of career levels, there is a spectrum of issues with which a mentor might assist. The mentor may:

• offer information and suggest resources that will help a mentee understand what it is like to be a psychoanalyst and what is involved in analytic training.
• inform the mentee of current activities, programs, courses, and services offered by SFCP.
• direct the mentee to literature or courses relevant to their interests and discuss selected articles together.
• help clarify the participant's career goals and the extent of their interest in psychoanalytic ideas.
• help a mentee who already has a clear interest in analytic training to sort through logistical obstacles to embarking on such a commitment.

ENROLLMENT: A participant must be a member of the SFCP Community Members and complete a Mentorship Matching Form by September 30, 2011. Participants will be contacted by phone during the matching process for information about their interests. The program is limited to the first 12 participants who enroll.

*The Mentorship Program is not a recruitment program. The mentor-mentee relationship is confidential and the mentor does not inform or influence the admission process should the mentee apply to the Center for training.
