Participants will be able to:
- Identify in their work with women patients, a core complex in relation to the primary maternal imago, the longing for fusion and also the terror of it.
- Recognize that sado-masochistic manifestations in analyses of women may represent attempts to organise a primitive, terrifying relationship to the primary maternal object, and disguise the passionate attachment to the primary object that has been lost.
- Distinguish between incorporation in the underlying melancholia in these women patients versus the identification process occurring in mourning.
