Course Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify in their work with women patients, a core complex in relation to the primary maternal imago, the longing for fusion and also the terror of it.
  2. Recognize that sado-masochistic manifestations in analyses of women may represent attempts to organise a primitive, terrifying relationship to the primary maternal object, and disguise the passionate attachment to the primary object that has been lost.
  3. Distinguish between incorporation in the underlying melancholia in these women patients versus the identification process occurring in mourning.
