Dr. Rina Sharfstein has been in private practice in San Francisco under the supervision of Katherine MacVicar, MD since 2010. She specializes in long term, psychoanalytic psychotherapy with adults, adolescents and children, and has a strong interest in couple’s work. Additionally, Dr. Sharfstein is experienced in working with immigrant and first generation populations. Beginning this fall, she will also see patients and administer psychological assessments in Napa under the supervision of Dr. Meghan Tiedemann-Fuller.
Dr. Sharfstein earned her B.A. in psychology from Tufts University in Medford, Masachusetts, and her Psy.D from the Wright Institute in Berkeley. She completed her pre-doctoral internship at The Access Institute for Psychological Services in San Francsico and volunteers on the Spectrum Committee.

Course Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
- Participants will assess and compare theri understanding of the clinical process from different clinical and theoretical perspectives.
- Participants will gain skill in identifying the transference/counter-transference process.
- Participants will be able to formulate better technical interventions
The San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis is accredited by the Institute for Medical Quality/California Medical Association (IMQ/CMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
