SFCP 2013 Election and Candidates Statements

SFCP Analyst Members and Candidates, last month, everyone should have received a ballot for this year’s election. The ballot includes three candidates: one position of President-Elect and two positions of Analyst-at-Large on our Board of Trustees. If you have already voted, thank you! If not, please send in your ballot by June 14, 2013. Below are the candidates’ statements.

Michael Donner, Ph.D.
Although running unopposed, I am pleased to have this opportunity to introduce myself as a candidate for President-Elect.

Thank You!

You may have noticed the wonderful photographs SFCP has been using for its brochures, but you might have missed that they are the work of SFCP’s member, Lee Grossman. Dr. Grossman, we would like to thank you for your generosity and for allowing us the use of your photographs for SFCP’s promotional materials.

To the Colleagues, Students and Friends of Cal Settlage,

On April 22, I spoke with Cal Settlage’s daughter, Sally. She informs me that Dr. Settlage has been in a skilled nursing facility since the Fall. For those members who wish to send him a card or letter , his mailing address is: 2324 Madison 1500, Huntsville, Arkansas 72740. Dr. Settlage is a long-term member of SFCP; he is a graduate child and adult analyst and Supervising and Training Analyst Emeritus.

Update from the Desk of the Chief Operating Officer

Sometimes our best-laid plans, no matter how well thought out, simply do not come to fruition. In September I wrote telling you of our plans to equip the building to handle all our audio/visual and telecommunication needs. I certainly had no idea we would be approaching graduation and still not have a fully equipped auditorium. I’ve been amazed at the difficulty in finding an experienced vendor who is able to understand the needs of an organization like ours. We interviewed and tested equipment from companies more accustomed to dealing with larger organizations with much larger budgets. We did see some great equipment but it came with ongoing charges that could not be accommodated in our budget at this point in time. While the task force has been working to develop plans for online classes that would generate the income to cover the costs we simply aren’t ready. Recently we have been in contact with a distributor who can supply and install the equipment we need in the auditorium and if the stars align we should have everything in place for the new academic year in September. In the meantime we still have the ability to broadcast events to remote locations. Last month we had over fifty people participate remotely in the Scientific Meeting.

Message from the Membership Integration Committee (MIC)

I am writing to bring you up-to-date on some of the developments in the Membership Division.

The Annual Member’s Party, brought to you by the Membership Integration Committee (MIC), will be held on September 21. Our annual party allows for everyone to come together to see old friends and colleagues and also to meet new ones. Each year we have had about 160-170 people eating good food and, as of last year, listening to good music. Save the date. The MIC consists of analysts, candidates, and community members. We are involved in the developing a more integrated, involved community for all categories of membership.

Poetry and Psychoanalysis at SFCP and the J. David Frankel Memorial Fund

On a beautiful Sunday morning in early February at SFCP, the following poem could be heard:
I knew not the Temple of Amassed Incense- -
For several miles, I entered cloudy peaks:
Ancient trees, a path without people,
Deep in the mountains, a bell from what place?

The sound of a spring: choking steep stones,
Sun’s color: cooling green pines.
On the cusp of evening, at the bend of an empty pond,
Sitting in meditation, I master the poison dragon.
