Course Description:
Freud spoke of "evenly hovering attention." Bion focused on listening "without memory or desire." Reik wrote Listening With the Third Ear. Ogden speaks of the importance of Reverie. Buddhists teach Mindfulness.

Listening psychoanalytically is an elusive state of mind, the development of which sometimes gets neglected as energies are focused on how to interpret what it is we hear on the latent or symbolic level. The objective of this seminar is to cultivate our capacity to listen psychoanalytically. We will then bring this elusive state of mind with us as we listen to case presentations, attending to transference, countertransference and reverie as key registers in a psychoanalytic treatment. This seminar offers the opportunity for participants to share clinical material from their cases, however, it is not a requirement.
