Services & User Guide

Library Users

The Erik Erikson library is open to the public during library hours. Library privileges are granted to members and candidates of the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. Friends of SFCP also have library privileges. Membership to the Friends of SFCP can be acquired through an annual membership fee.

Loan Periods and Overdues

Most books circulate for 4 weeks; some journals also circulate for 4 weeks. Reference books are non-circulating. Videotapes and audiotapes have a 2-week loan period.

Because we have so many different loan periods, please be sure to carefully check the due date for each item you borrow. Although there is no fine for overdue, please return materials by the due date or call us to renew your borrowed items.

If an item is lost, you will be billed for replacement cost plus fines.

Course Reserve Materials

SFCP Faculty can reserve books by calling the library.

PsycINFO, Medline, and Jourlit

Library users can search PsycINFO, Medline, and Jourlit. Searches may be printed, downloaded, or e-mailed.

Interlibrary Loan

Our library utilizes several online resources including the National Library of Medicine’s Docline to provide you with comprehensive, efficient Interlibrary Loan service. This service is very costly to provide in terms of staff time, database fees, postage, and charges from lending libraries. To recover a small portion of these costs we charge $15.00 for each interlibrary loan received from University Libraries outside of the NCCPL Consortium.

Research Assistance and Online Literature Searches

Please see Susanna Bonetti, Library Director, for research assistance. Online literature searches have a cost of $8.00.

Northern California Consortium of Psychology Libraries

SFCP is a member of NCCPL, a library consortium with 16 Bay Area psychology libraries. If you would like to request borrowing privileges at any NCCPL library, please see Susanna Bonetti to request a free NCCPL library card. Brochures describing the collections, locations, and hours of NCCPL member libraries are available from the SFCP library staff.

Library Reproduction Services

The library can provide for single users Xeroxing service for a fee: $0.15 per sheet plus a flat fee of $3.00 per article and cost of postage.
