Past programs of Let's Talk Opera, Doc
In conjunction with San Francisco Opera, we are proud to present "Let's Talk Opera, Doc"--a psychoanalytic discussion of San Francisco Opera's presentation of Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss after the 1:30pm matinee on June 24, 2007.
Immediately following the performance hear SFCP program chair Dr. Linda Lagemann and Dr. Alan Skolnikoff analyze the opera from a psychological perspective.
There will be time for questions, and audience members will have a chance to share their thoughts on the opera.
THE STORY
The Marschallin tries to deny the passage of time by embarking on an affair with a young nobleman, Octavian.
Their night-long tryst is interrupted by the Marschallin’s boorish cousin, Baron Ochs, who announces his intention to wed the beautiful innocent, Sophie.
The Marschallin proposes that Octavian deliver the customary silver rose to Sophie, announcing the proposal.
Trouble is, the two young people fall in love, which means Ochs must be thwarted.
In a rapturous final trio, the Marschallin realizes that the real act of love is to give up Octavian.
By special arrangement the San Francisco Opera is pleased to offer SFPI&S members, candidates, the Friends of SFCP and all our associates 15% off regular ticket prices.
