PRESENTER: Peter Goldberg, Ph.D.
Member and Faculty, SFCP; Personal and Supervising Analyst, PINC. Dr. Goldberg writes on psychosomatic dissociation, the impact of social trauma on psychical organization, sensory experience in analysis, and the concept of the analytic frame. His recent publications include "Process, Resistance, Interpretation," in The Textbook of Psychoanalysis, and "With Regard to the Analytic Frame," Psychoanalytic Dialogues.

Course Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

      1. Describe aspects of the analytic frame, both external (time, boundaries, the consultation room) and_internal (what the therapist keeps in mind as a structure for the work to proceed), and how ideas of the frame have evolved historically in psychoanalysis.
      2. Describe how innovations in technique often arise from re-thinking the frame.
      3. Describe how the pliable aspects of the frame can be altered to create different, neccessary conditions for emotional growth with certain partients.
