Course Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to identify their needs for professional development and collegial support in their ongoing work in community based settings.
  2. Participants will be able to proactively identify when countertransference responses or life circumstances necessitate the use consultation to steady their professional stance.
  3. Participants will learn to identify when there are deviations from the frame of their  clinical contact.
  4. Participants will develop greater awareness of internal and external pressures within the context of the therapeutic relationship that need conscious attention. Rather than enacting a response to a boundary pressure, participants will develop skills to recognize the indications of changing the terms of engagement.
  5. Participants will develop critical thinking and awareness of the impact of race, class, culture, sexual orientation and gender as it influences professional aspiration.
